The Tar Sands Storytelling Project on Display at Salmagundi through March 2020
/From Joel & Jocelyn at Salmagundi: We have made the decision to postpone the March 13 reception at Salmagundi to fall on the side of caution when it comes to public health. We hope that we can reschedule for later in the month, perhaps when the folks would be here to pick up the art. We are keeping our business closed for the next week, at least, to see how things progress. We are terribly sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment to all, including ourselves, who have been planning and looking forward to this very important event.

Post Gala Greetings!
As I mentioned during our Gala in recognition of the young adults who are leading us forward in the struggle for an equitable and sustainable world, the unique collaborative, grass-roots visual arts exhibit titled The Tar Sands Storytelling Project is on display all month at Salmagundi, in Ashland.
Program/Events Chair and Natural Resources Committee member Sheila Mitchell, who made the exhibit arrangements, explains in an upcoming March Bottom Line article that the collection of 10 paintings by 10 Wisconsin artists depicts the tar sands story in multiple phases. Originally done to highlight attention to Enbridge Line 61, which is the world’s second largest pipeline, running from Superior, Wisconsin to Flanagan, Illinois, this collection helps highlight the issues that also pertain to Northern Wisconsin’s Enbridge Line 5.
The show depicts the following four stages:

Mining the Tar Sands
Adding Chemicals
MOVING THE TAR SANDS
Impeding Treaty Rights
Creating a Path
Constructing a Pipeline
END RESULTS

Please note that funds and organizational leadership for this project available to us throughout March were provided by the Clark County Cultural Art Center, The Sierra Club of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Youth Network.
Sincere appreciation goes to Salmagundi for welcoming the exhibit into their space where a reception to celebrate the project will be held on Friday, March 13 from 6 to 8 pm.
